Rambling fat man.... it's never too late to get back on yer bike.
Rambling fat man is a blog of cycle rides with a slight difference; I’m captivated with Great Britain’s past. I feel the UK has so much to offer; our Victorian engineering inheritance is unsurpassed. I’m fascinated by the Industrial age and therefore; my rides center around heritage steam railways, old disused lines, canals, WW2 relics, monastic ruins, industrial heritage sites and let’s not forget the older remnants of; Norman castles and Roman remains.
The rides vary in duration from a single day to weekends or many days, sometimes staying overnight at hotels, Youth hostels or campsites, some rides are original, some are from Sustrans or similar sites. You will find rides from all over the UK and some European rides with varying distances. Have a look in the 'rides' section in the tree menu at the top of the page. I try and stay off busy roads as much as possible using old railway cycle paths, cycle lanes, canal paths but inevitably some roads have to be used.
I will hopefully bring some interesting facts about the area, or era. I've had great fun and enjoyed
the rides so much; I wish to share them with you. You're welcome to use the information, but put any
inconsistencies down to poetic licence. Please enjoy and leave your comments on the guestbook if you wish.
Jorge.
